Founded in New York in 1915, Moscot has spanned five generations without ever losing its identity. A true Lower East Side institution, the brand blends optical expertise, family heritage and New York culture. Choosing Moscot sunglasses means choosing a piece of history crafted by eyewear artisans who have preserved their excellence for over a century.
The story began in 1899 when Hyman Moscot walked along Orchard Street with his pushcart selling eyeglasses. In 1915, he opened the first family shop at 94 Rivington Street. His son Sol joined the business in 1925 before taking over. In 1951, Jol continued the tradition, followed in 1986 by Dr Harvey Moscot, Doctor of Optometry and current CEO. In 1992, Kenny joined the company, and in 2013, Zack Moscot became Design Director.
From the early 1900s to today, Moscot has remained deeply anchored in its New York roots from 94 Rivington Street to 118 Orchard Street, and finally the iconic storefront at 94 Orchard Street.
Every pair is handcrafted and prototyped in the brand’s workshops. The 3.5- or 7-barrel hinges enhance durability, while the keyhole or metal bridge draws inspiration from universal optical fittings. The authentic column, dash or diamond rivets pass through both the frame front and the temples, ensuring strength and authenticity.
The acetate undergoes a traditional process: bio-acetate cellulose chips are hand-dried, arranged and fused into larger sheets. Each shape is then precisely cut, polished, bevelled and refined by hand. This meticulous work is combined with modern techniques and lenses that meet today's standards, creating sunglasses that withstand trends while remaining adapted to contemporary use.
The acetate or metal temple tips are designed for optimal comfort and stability, while the matching nose pads ensure an ideal fit. These carefully executed details form the core of Moscot’s identity: authentic, demanding and built to last.
Moscot’s craftsmanship shapes a visual identity that is instantly recognizable—thick lines, a keyhole bridge, and perfectly balanced proportions. The brand’s iconic models define its aesthetic: the Miltzen sunglasses born in the 1930s, the Lemtosh sunglasses inspired by the 1950s, and The Moyel echoing the spirit of the 1990s. Whether square, oval, pantos or round, each silhouette embodies a style that is both retro and timeless.
Acetate frames dominate the collection, offered in tortoise, black, transparent or blush finishes. Some versions, such as the Miltzen Flesh Calibar green lenses or the LEMTOSH SUN 46 TORTOISE G15, stand out for their subtle tones and refined vintage look.
Several Moscot sunglasses available at Visiofactory feature premium gradient lenses that offer a smooth transition between light and shade for a refined visual effect. For even more comfort, optional photochromic or polarized lenses can be added, perfect for driving, outdoor activities or sunny days by the sea.
Prescription or progressive lenses can also be fitted. Each pair can receive anti-scratch, anti-reflective and UV-protective coatings for clear, long-lasting vision.
At Visiofactory, we select the most emblematic Moscot sunglasses to offer an experience true to the brand’s spirit. Each pair comes with its official case, and our certified opticians ensure precise assembly and perfect adjustment for optimal comfort and authenticity. We guide you in creating a pair that matches your style, whether fitted with sun lenses or prescription optics.
